![]() The only chance a Shek has against an equivalently leveled skeleton (ignoring the fact the Shek will take 5-10x longer to level due to all the time spent being laid up in bed half dead) is researching the entire tech tree, grinding armorer to 100+, crafting and wearing full masterwork heavy armor and hoping the skeleton will deign to face them in honorable combat. run away to full repair all cut damage, crossbow kite the shek, run around and block the shek til it starves) the armor difference would mean the skeleton could always dictate the terms of the engagement. This is ignoring all the goofy bs a skeleton could conceivably do to win 100% of the time (i.e. light armor skeleton is more interesting but I think the skeleton wins 1 vs 1 more often than not in a straight fight. light armor skeleton the Shek should always just get dumpstered. Masterwork leather turtlenecks are a nice little defensive boost but even on a Shek they don't come close to providing skeleton levels of resilience or utility. Limping half-dead to a bed is the worst part of Kenshi. I gotta disagree on the sandals, end game you will want masterwork robot limbs, KRL if you're just considering combat but anything is better than squishy organic legs. So next time you are thinking about letting Burn rust manning a turret, instead train his toughness to 90 on fogmen, give him a shoddy assassin's rag and your best falling sun and see how he stacks up to the competition, I promise you won't be disappointed. Between all the bonuses and maluses, they are likely doing at least 2x the DPS of the universally hailed armored Shek, can run and fight circles around them and generally just seem much better imo. This means they get decent damage mitigation with outstanding DPS where any other race would need to compromise. This is where the natural resilience and fast healing of skeletons comes in, with 2x the hp and the ability to near instantly heal all cut damage, skeletons with high toughness wind up far tankier than a light armored character has any right to be. Typically you will want heavier armor though because characters are fragile in Kenshi and can be badly injured or even downed by a single blow from tough enemies. The difference in stats alone makes light armor tempting for any character, there is an oppressive 20 pt difference just in attack between a decked out samurai and a light armored assassin, not to mention the huge difference in dexterity and combat speed. 8 point attack increase (at the cost of 4 defense) Assassin's rags in particular are amazing, notably giving: Things get even worse for heavy armor boi when you factor in that light armor has huge bonuses so there's an opportunity cost for all that protection. The specific way each heavy armor makes you terrible is different, but samurai seems to be the mildest overall. Effective Dodge of zero (can't get out of stagger animations) ![]() flat 15% reduction to ALL damage dealingĬumulative combat speed reduction to ~.85 (far worse with lower quality gear) Take masterwork samurai armor w/ blackened chainmail for example: The fact is, any time you are using heavy armor on a character you are seriously neutering their combat performance in ways that might not be immediately obvious. While I understand the argument of using heavily armored Sheks to obtain the highest effective hp of any character, I have done all Shek playthroughs and am doing an all skeleton playthrough now and I can safely say that EHP is by no means the final measure of a warrior. I have seen a lot of discussion previously about the differences between races and their effectiveness in combat, and the consensus always tends towards skeletons being on the weaker side with the Shek dominating the late game.
